This month, as we continue into our exploration of our 2025 theme, The Mystic’s
Journey, we’re taking a deep dive into one of the mystic’s most profound and powerful
practices: Surrender. Far from being passive or weak, surrender is a conscious choice
to release control and align with the deeper rhythms of the Divine. It is the turning point
on the spiritual path—the moment when we stop trying to force life to happen and
instead allow ourselves to be guided by something greater. As we explore this theme
together, we’ll uncover how surrender opens the heart, quiets the mind, and invites
grace, healing, and transformation into every area of our lives.
The Sacred Art of Surrender
On the mystic’s path, there comes a moment, often many moments, when we are
called to release our grip on how we think life should unfold. These are not moments of
weakness or defeat, but sacred invitations into the deeper currents of trust. This is the
holy ground of surrender.
Unlike resignation, which gives up in despair, surrender is an empowered letting go.
It is the soul’s whisper that says, “I trust something greater is unfolding, even if I cannot
yet see it.” Surrender is not the absence of choice it is the boldest choice of all: to
align with a Higher Wisdom, to relinquish control, and to allow the Divine to lead.
The Turning Point
Mystics across traditions — from Rumi to Teresa of Ávila, from Lao Tzu to Jesus —
have spoken of this moment of turning. It often follows a time of striving, seeking, or
spiritual dryness. We try to fix, to manage, to manifest. We read the books, say the
affirmations, meditate and pray. And still, something within us says, Not this way. Not
anymore.
It is here that surrender arrives as Grace.
It is not something we force, but something we fall into like a leaf released into
the stream.
Why Surrender Matters
Surrender is essential because it empties the self-made container, making space for
something new to be born. In that emptying, we become receptive to Divine Guidance,
to Soul Wisdom, to a Love that moves beyond our limited understanding.
When we surrender:
We release attachment to outcomes and open to unexpected blessings.
We move from striving to receiving, allowing ease to replace effort.
We let go of fear and control, and step into trust, humility, and peace.
The Paradox of Power
In a culture that idolizes control, surrender can feel counterintuitive. But in truth, it is one of the most powerful spiritual acts. The mystic knows that when we surrender, we are not giving up power we are returning to Source, the true seat of all power.
It is here, in surrender, that miracles can flow. That insight can rise. That Love can
lead.
A Practice for Surrender
If you find yourself in a moment of uncertainty, tension, or transition, try this simple
practice:
1. Breathe. Gently and fully. Let the breath soften your body.
2. Acknowledge what you are holding — fears, plans, outcomes.
3. Affirm: I surrender this to the care of the Infinite. I let go and trust the Divine
unfolding.
4. Listen. Be still. Let guidance arise — not from your mind, but from the deep well
of your inner knowing.
In closing, the mystic’s journey is not linear. It is a spiral, a dance, a descent, and a rising. And at every turn, surrender calls us deeper — not to lose ourselves, but to find our Truest Self in union with the One.
So, if you are weary from carrying too much…
If you are standing at a threshold, unsure of the next step…
If you are longing for peace…
Surrender. Not because you must, but because you can.
Because surrender isn’t the end of your journey — it’s the doorway to a life guided by
grace.
